"Worse Mario Game I've played" 2009-08-13
By D. Mingay (UK)
I have played pretty much played every Mario Game (certainly every "platform" game) since the original Mario Bros - Before they were Super. In terms of playability this is by far the worst. There is so much pointless waffle (they call it a story) during and before the game even starts I just got bored! The gameplay just isn't there to warrant it.

If you compare it to Mario Galaxy - there is now comparison. Shoddy graphics - even the "3D" isn't really 3D as Mario is still in 2D. The constant having to flip between characters is rather irritating.

I was really looking forward to this game - alas it was a waste of money. I've since traded it for something else.

Overall really do not waste your money on this game - it's not worth it.

I am a serious Mario fan, and didn't write this review lightly!

"Not as the original...ok gaming.." 2009-06-01
By Carolina.' Trini ' (U.K)
I was having such high expectations of the game as I really loved the old version of super mario, the game as good but very difficult to play as I could not get past a certain level which I have given up on.

The game also has too mush talking and reading in it and not enough gaming time.

The 3d play in the game is very good and the little helper magical butterfly, that was an excellent improvement.

The game could get you playing for hours, when you get home from work etc.. (if you have that much time).

A must buy as it is super mario, even if you don't like the game that much its one for the collection.

"A very enjoyable paper weight, role playing adventure game." 2009-05-27
By Dragonlord (Cornwall)
Super Paper Mario is a an rpg/platformer. Paper Mario doesn't have the depth of a Zelda game but it does have lots of cool ideas which make it fun. One of the best things is the way you can flip from 2D into 3D, which you need to do for navigating your way around the levels and solving puzzles. Overall Super Paper Mario is a fun quirky adventure game with plenty of Nintendo magic, but it's a bit easy and isn't as good as Mario Galaxy or Zelda (then not many games are).

 "Fun, funny and addictive!!" 2009-04-11
By Prof. Plum
I bought this game when I bought the console and played it until completion. It has puzzle elements, thankfully not too easy and not too difficult but challenging nonetheless. It has platform and boss elements. The seven levels in the game are imaginative and the home planet is delightful- colourful, funny characters and much to explore. You have to play a platform type game with a 3D view option which you need to finish or achieve certain tasks. The other Mario characters join you as you progress on your quest and their unique abilities are needed for different levels, sub-levels and you even find you need to change character within some individual screens. This may sound complicated but the controls are easy with no bad camera angles. Collecting items, potions and powers is an addictive aspect to the game but the most addictive parts are when you get stuck and try and try to progress. Try it!

Play with motion control! Row your way down a river, punch a statue to pieces, steer race cars and mopeds, and handle a balancing pole while walking a tightrope. Play with the pointer. Drag and drop decorations onto cakes, shoot Boos in haunted house, quickly choose your answer in a game show. Mash those Wii Remote buttons. Jump and pummel your way through a football brawl, hop and run across an obstacle course of spinning platforms. Mario Party 8 includes six brand-new boards, dozens of minigames and many new modes. In a franchise first, you can collect special power-ups and transform your character into a boulder that smashes rivals or a coin-sucking vampire.  "Not as good as other Mario games" 2009-08-09
By kdog (uk)
I was really looking forward to getting this game as I have played the DS version with some friends. In most cases the wii version is by far the best however I thought the Ds version was a lot better than this.

This isn't really the kind of game you can pick up and play- if you want to do the main game the minimum time it can take is 1 hour.

Basically you play with 3 other players(either wii remotes or computers) and travel round a board to try and reach stars. At the end of each players turn you play a mini game to try and earn coins. The mini games are quite fun and you have to do all sorts of different things such as sports, cooking and even painting. If you like the games I would recommend Rayman Raving Rabbit which is more fun.

 "Don't buy this!" 2009-06-07
By J. Holdsworth (uk)
My husband and I lasted an hour playing this and though it was the slowst most tedious game ever. There are not lots of things to do. Esentailly there are five mild varieties of the same tedious board game. Please don't waste your money, we just did and are most disgruntled as a result!

"Great fun for all ages" 2009-03-09
By Simon Thomas (Gloucester, UK)
At first, the concept of each game style can be difficult (often frustrating) to grasp, but once you get into it, good clean fun will be had by all.

Probably better suited to the younger age range and parents who wish to play along, this game is easy to pick up and not really physically (or mentally) demanding, which makes for a relaxed game experience.

It's essentially a hybrid of monopoly and snakes-and-ladders with mini games (1-2 minutes each) in between each round of turns to keep you on your toes.

Very good fun, recommmended.

"Mario Party 8 - ok but not as good as mario kart" 2009-02-27
By J. James (England)
I brought this for my son for his birthday after reading pretty good reviews about it. I don't feel it is as good as some of the rave reviews I've read. Decent but average. My 2 older kids 13 and 11 seem to quite like it but I can tell after a few weeks its playtime will dwindle as I don't think it got enough about it to keep them hooked. Disappointing after Mario Kart maybe I was expecting too much as they entirely different games but I was going on fact it a Mario game again.

"A different take on the platformer" 2009-07-24
By Me T. Garrett (Hampshire, England)
I bought this game for my girlfriend so that she could play solo. It turns out this game isn't as simple as I expected...or maybe its that its not as familiar as I expected, because it is in fact very linear.

I think I prefer the old style of a big world and then running about as in Mario 64 but I must admit that this new style IS fun.

The two-player element is a bit lacklustre, but at least it does have one - I control Mario and she fires the starbits and collects them too, which she seems to enjoy a lot! (she also like forcing Mario to jump with her controller which makes it a bit trickier!)

Great graphics, confusing camera-work but overall very entertaining.

I'd recommend it.

 "A good game" 2009-07-15

This game is really fun. The levels do get harder during the game. There is only one downside to the game and it is that when you are playing 2 player the second player does not actually do much so it does get a bit boring.
